Architecture for Babies

I'm still crossing my fingers that my stepson will become an architect, and now that there's a baby boy on the way, I will have another one to brainwash into joining my design world! (Don't worry, I'm totally kidding-although I do believe in nurturing a child's creativity.) Anyhow, I found these architecture books for brainwashing your baby (j/k- bringing art to his young life)-I may buy the Iggy Peck one...

16 page board book Architecture Shapes
"Architecture Shapes explores shapes through the composition and arrangement of windows."--from amazon.com.
---5 stars from amazon's customer reviews

This book has 5 stars from the amazon customer reviews and has received the Parent's Choice Silver Honor award.(for ages 4-8)

"Iggy has one passion: building. His parents are proud of his fabulous creations, though they’re sometimes surprised by his materials—who could forget the tower he built of dirty diapers? When his second-grade teacher declares her dislike of architecture, Iggy faces a challenge. He loves building too much to give it up! With Andrea Beaty’s irresistible rhyming text and David Roberts’s puckish illustrations, this book will charm creative kids everywhere, and amuse their sometimes bewildered parents." from amazon.com

"Insect architects! This is an inspired little story with theunlikely prospect of a termite who dreams of building with wood instead of eating it.... Roberto sets off for the big buggy city in search of his dream.
The story is encouraging, and the wordplay witty but it's the fantastically funky collages that win you over. Laden uses all sorts of images... to create unreal insect edifaces. You'll find yourself staring at the quirky seussian architecture and chuckling at all the in-jokes."---review on amazon.com by Xeneri.

Chocolate Walls & Ceilings

Are you a fan of Godiva chocolate? If so, taking a stroll through "Godiva Chocoiste" in Tokyo would be a mouthwatering experience for you.

Not only are the decadent chocolates themselves sold here, but even the walls and ceiling appear to "ooze chocolate" with irrestible appeal, at least for those of us with a weakness for this particular sweet. The paneled "chocolate" walls look like you could take a bite right out of them, and while this interior design pushes the boundaries of what you'd expect to see,

-it still maintains a sophisticated edge with its smooth marble floors, modern light display, and metallic surfaces-a sophistication one naturally associates with the Godiva name brand. Read more here.

interior by Carrie McCarthy

These stained-glass windows are so beautiful! I love how they are brilliantly colored but don't look church-y, they fit perfectly in this residential setting. One of Carrie McCarthy's designs, found here on coco+kelley.

Thinking about Christmas...

Now that Halloween is (newly) over, we've been thinking more and more about Christmas (though truth be told, the Christmas music has been playing for awhile at our house, and the kids' wish lists have already collected some dust on the front of our fridge.) It will soon be time to put up the tree, decorate the house, and send out Christmas cards. Here are some charming cards I found at Paper Culture:

Everything but the kitchen floor!

To me, everything about this kitchen is just so-so, except the kitchen floor-I would love to have fun tiles like this in ours! (Except not that texture.) The gray color is particularly beautiful. This kitchen is in the apartment of interior designer Ellen Hanson, which I found on this posting from Design Sponge.

A Hip Solution for Toy Storage

"Those pretty and poetic round bubbles 'Bulles de Nua' are made by Marie Macon and Anne-Laure Lesquoy for Red Editions. They are made out of Vietnamese bamboo and the inside comes in 3 different colours made of lacquer."---Wouldn't these make the coolest toy boxes? (Text and images found here.)

Charming Nantucket

"We just returned from a long weekend on Nantucket and, although the weather wasn't picture perfect everyday, were delighted to discover this island's wonderfully refined sense of color. Isolated pops of historic hues invigorate this cobblestone world of weathered cedar shingles..."---Wes & Kayla Schwartz (posting found here.)
